My thoughts: Middleton Brewing owner and head brewer Geoff Middleton isn’t afraid to toss some fun ingredients in his beers. That makes his annual spring lineup, which includes beers made with blueberries, lemongrass and more, such a treat.

That’s My Jam is the belle of the ball, however. Made with 36 pounds of strawberries per barrel, the strawberry wheat beer has, unsurprisingly, a huge strawberry aroma. Stick your nose in there and you’ll swear you’re smack dab in the middle of a row of strawberry plants at Biringer’s Farm.

The flavor is light and complements the strong wheat base. It’s a smooth beer with a light sweetness and minimal carbonation. It’s perfect for a sunny spring day.

Overall, strong wheat beers aren’t my thing. But I found myself craving this beer an hour after I tried it. That might have been due to the hot weather and a strong desire to put our rainy winter in the rearview mirror.

Middleton’s Spring beer release party is noon to 10 p.m. on April 2 at the brewery, 607 SE Everett Mall Way, Everett. Taster flights of all four spring beers are $1 with the purchase of a pint.

From the brewery: Our most labor intensive beer, this smooth and cloudy wheat ale is brewed with 36 pounds of fresh strawberries (per barrel). Its bold strawberry flavor and aroma make it a great sunny weather beer.
